Hello.
I am Jomarkho, a UK-based EDM producer with a love for trance and melodic techno. In the early 90s, I was involved in the UK rave scene, producing and performing for a while under the name Bass Mekanic. One of my tracks, “Can’t Wait Tonight/Tonite” was released as the opening track on “The Sound of Obessession (Volume 1)” album in 1993. I even feature in the inlay wearing a rather fetching orange boiler suit – it was the early 90s. A different version of the track was also featured on the “Noise Love Unity” Love Parade ’94 album.
In the mid-90s I went off to university to study Electronic Engineering with Music Technology Systems, leaving little time for music production outside of my course. However, I developed a love for the trance music of the mid to late ’90s and early 2000s which lasts to this day. Glorious, emotive breaks that give you goosebumps are what music is all about for me. It isn’t really the words for me – it’s the vibes, the “feels”, and the emotional journey that music can take you on.
I had also begun learning jazz piano which became my musical focus for the next 20 years playing in a (mostly) hobbyist jazz band since the early 2000s. “Sparkies Jazz” was truly a wonderful part of my life*. I push steadily towards combining my love for jazz with trance. Strangely enough, they seem uncomfortable bedfellows.
My 90s vinyl collection, whilst heavy on the techno, also consists of a large number of tracks with great piano riffs. Most of my tracks, especially my trance tunes, include piano melodies or riffs. I feel that the piano is part of me, even if I am not a super high-level player, as it has been with me since childhood.
Family life throughout the 2000s provided little time for musical production, after becoming a father of three. However, it was always on my mind. I had written a number of jazz tunes and songs but I always felt the calling to continue where I left before moving away to study and then enter the 9-5. In 2019, my wife passed away from cancer. One day, whilst lying in her hospital bed, she told me to “find both love and your music again”.
I am finding my music again and it feels amazing to be creating once more. I have been producing with a focus on creating trance music that harks back to my love of the music from the 90s and early 2000s with nods to the modern age. I would also like to further explore fusing my main musical passions into more Christmas trance music.
I appreciate all support for my music and myself so that I can continue my journey and keep making music.
Love
Jomarkho
* I add this update this on the 1st of July 2023. A couple of days ago, my friend Brian, long-term drummer for Sparkies Jazz passed away. I had managed to visit him a few times when he was ill, hearing his stories about life and, together, listening to recordings of the band. It was a privilege to spend that time with him, cringing and laughing at our mistakes, and reminiscing about good times. The joy he got from listening to the music was just wonderful.
Make music people. It’s a special thing.
Cheerio Brian.
This is a note for Amazon music for verifying me for their artist profile.
